6. Workshop houtverbranding. Waar rook is, is … fijn stof
Houtverbranding zorgt voor veel meer luchtvervuiling dan de meeste mensen denken. Uit een onderzoek in 2011, uitgevoerd in opdracht van de VMM, bleek al dat het aandeel van houtverbranding in de fijnstofproblematiek groot is.

Om deze problematiek extra onder de loep te nemen, hield de VMM op 2 en 3 december een internationale expertenworkshop in Gent. Op het programma stonden de verschillende manieren om deze bijdrage te meten, de concentraties bij ons en in onze buurlanden en de impact van houtverbranding op gezondheid en klimaat.

Succesful workshop on woodburning

VMM, with support of Joaquin, succusfully concluded the workshop on woodburning today. Over the course of two days examples and best practices were discussed regarding monitoring of woodburning, te role of woodburning in particulate matter and its health effects.

The first day of the workshop focussed on setting the context with regards to the monitored concentrations of air pollution and the methods with which the share of woodburning emissions in these concentrations can be determined.

During the second day the focus shifted to techniques for modeling emission specifically and the health effects associated with air pollution from wood burning.
